Vajrasattva – Dorje Sempa (Tib.)
The Diamond Being, the bodhisattva Vajrasattva is the main Buddhist deity practiced for purification by practitioners on all levels of Tantric practice, along with the four opponent powers of refuge, regret, resolve and antidote. Vajrasattva practices are an essential element of Tibetan Buddhist practice, common to all schools and performed both as part of a daily spiritual routine and as part of preliminary practices for Highest Yoga Tantra practitioners.
Depending on which type of practice is being followed, Vajrasattva can be visualized either alone or with a consort.
Here Vajrasattva is shown seated in the full vajra posture, white in color symbolizing immaculate purity. Wearing the silk garments and jeweled ornaments of ancient Indian royalty, he holds a vajra scepter symbolizing method in his right hand and the bell of wisdom in his left.
